Many technologies have had an impact on humanity in a positive way, making it easier to perform a task or improve the overall quality of life.” (Technology and Society 1). Of course, this seems very appealing to us in the short term because it allows us to be lazy in a sense, but in the long run this will greatly affect individuals who let technology take over their lives completely. It can be very hard for people to realize this though, as the media does a great job of advertising all of their latest and greatest products or opinions to make us want to go along with what everyone else is doing . In the book 1984 by George Orwell, propaganda is a huge part of the way their society works. The party is forced to basically become brainwashed to think and act in certain ways and if not, they could be killed. This is somewhat true with our advertisment of technology in America, but not nearlt to that extent. Our social media, news, and advertisments are always trying to persuade us to purchase the newest cell phones and computers. The result of this has been that the number of people owning smartphones has kept increasing more and more over the years. A viewpoint article stated that “Nearly half (46%) of American adults are smartphone owners as of February 2012, an increase of 11 percentage points over the 35% of Americans who owned a smartphone last May.” (Smartphone Ownership Is Growing 1). By now it has become clear that technology companies are dwelling right now, and their intentions are to let technology replace our own intelligence so that we rely on technology for everything which in the end will make them
