Poshmark Personal Statement

Whether it be lemonade stands, jewelry making, or bake sales, I have always been a child of entrepreneurial spirit. I have raised money for myself, others, schools, hospitals, and causes. During my senior year of high school, I worked as a beauty consultant at Walgreens and a floor employee at Zoot’s dry cleaning. After finding out I could attend college by filing FAFSA, spending wisely, and accepting my scholarships, I began to closely budget my every move.

In order to supplement my two part time jobs, I turned to the app called Poshmark. This strictly online based program allows everyday business women, such as myself, to create a shop and list items to sell. After a few months, I had already sold all of my unwanted gently worn clothing, handbags, and accessories. I turned a quick profit in a small amount of time. However, with nothing left of my own to list, my closet stopped getting any visitors.

Something about finding that perfect vintage piece, unlike anything seen in the mass retail stores, gives your style such a personal edge. Most thrift store items were under $6, and half off on Wednesdays. Combined with exclusivity and aesthetic allure, I began to sell my bargain items for up to 500% profit. My favorite pieces included a Tommy Hilfiger jean jacket, an authentic Louis Vuitton handbag, and vintage Levi jeans. Through posting photos of the item styled with others I had for sale, combined with diligently answering questions and fulfilling orders, I became one of the top 15% sellers on Poshmark in less than a year, nation

Betty's Unique Finds LLC was set up in 1998 as a family-run consignment shop serving customers in and around DeLand, Florida. We act as shipping agents on behalf of clients who want to sell goods, either by auction or at our store, and we have developed an excellent reputation since we became established. When customers bring their items to us for sale, they need to be ready to put on the shelf. All clothing has to be dry cleaned in advance, and free from stains, pet hair, and odors. We priced the item by checking the original cost, then cutting it by half.…

The All My Life for Sale project by John Freyer was an interesting concept to sell the best items on eBay that represented his life in Iowa City, Iowa. One of the main components of his project was to follow all of his stuff he sold (Freyer, 2001). He was asking all of the highest bidders to provide the readers of All My Life for Sale with an update on the piece of his life that they acquired (Freyer, 2001). The items chosen had no real monetary value, but instead had stories of how he received them to what they did for him. The story behind each item is where the real value lied and people from all over wanted to be a part of his story.…

Book Review I like the book Made in America my Story it was well written. I enjoyed reading about Sam Walton’s life, and that his mom was a good motivator who supported him. It was interesting that when he had a lot of money, but found a way that he does not need to spend a lot. I guess it is because he grew up in the great depression era He said, “That’s simple because we should believe in the value of the dollar.” Sam and his family thought that if the money was spent foolishly, it would come out of the customer’s pocket.…

Plato's Closet I have always been a bit of a penny pincher, but I don't necessarily want to look like one. So I'm always on the lookout for quality second-hand clothing, shoes and accessories stores. One of my like-minded, very fashionable friends told me about Plato's Closet in Myrtle Beach she recently discovered and we rode there together one Saturday morning. As we walked through the doors, my first impression -- and something I always look for when scoping out good second-hand shops -- was the near-perfect orderliness.…

I made my first nickel when I was six by investing in a school business run by the fourth-grade moguls. Every year, they collected a dollar from prospective investors and used the contributions to purchase ingredients for a dessert sold at lunchtime. Later, they would return the money with interest. I invested in these ventures annually, and eventually, it was my turn to be an entrepreneur. The dessert we sold that year was snow cones, and more than earning money, I loved the way I made people happy as I handed them their colorful, syrup-covered ice.…

Beginning at the tender age of four, my family and I united over the joy of what many would consider unlikely--yard selling. Every Saturday we would pile into the car at 7:00AM and travel the city, looking for the classic cluttered set-up on the side of the street. My parents handed my brother and I five dollars each, saying that we could get double back if we invested properly. The strange mystery did not reveal itself until we began negotiating at our local flea market to sell the random knick-knacks that had attracted our young eyes.…

Underhill takes shopping to a whole new level by figuring out a way to manipulate a shopper into purchasing more items. Underhill’s hard work has paid off; he is now able to create an idea, experiment and analyze the idea, and create his own business to help retailers with their profits. Underhill says that his theories “seek not to make shoppers conform to the desires of sellers but to make sellers conform to the desire of shoppers” (466). One of the main purposes of Gladwell’s article, along with Underhill’s observations, is to inform businesses what they need to know about their shoppers.…

Whether you love it or hate it, all of us have succumbed to society’s need for us to constantly update our wardrobes on a somewhat yearly, monthly or even weekly basis. Now personally, I don’t mind shopping for clothes especially when I get to sit back on a couch and swipe through Amazon; but unlike most people, I really can’t find joy in spending a day at the mall, exploring store after store after store. Unlike myself, my parents have fancied themselves to be “good shoppers”, now, “what might that be?”…

Throughout my research on the entrepreneur’s life, I was able to realize that the path I was going on since high school of opening a social entrepreneurship as a tutor is what I still want to do. The main reason I chose this specific social entrepreneurship is that during my elementary school and high school years, I did not only just pay attention to what was being taught, but also how my teachers were teaching each subject. As I grew up, I was able to see myself as a teacher. However, when I realized that math was the only subject that attracted me, I began to take courses that were more depth in math. Slowly, I started to realize that the way math was taught to me in high school was essentially not correct, as the material in high school…
