Jackie Robinson said, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” Even mythological characters can impact lives. Not only do they have different stories but different purposes and different ways they were all created. One thing that they can relate is chaos and order. By reading myths of Poseidon, Olympian god of the sea, earthquakes, storms, and horses, we come to realize that he has impacted our culture in many different ways. Poseidon has influence the business industry, entertainment, and language.
Poseidon, Roman name is Neptune, was the son of Cronus and Rhea, brother to Zeus, Hades, Hera, Hestia, and Demeter. He is known for being the god of the sea and his symbols are the trident, fish, dolphin, horse, and bull. He and all of his brothers and sisters were swallowed by their father Cronus except for Zeus because his mother fooled his father by wrapping a stone in baby clothes (The Coming of the Gods, pg. 12). But in some stories it is believed that along with Zeus, Poseidon wasn’t swallowed by his father. He then had children of his own with Amphitrite: Theseus, Triton, Polyphemus, Belus, Agenor, Neleus, and Atlas.

Having power is a privilege, however once the power is abused, it grants the opportunity to influence one into believing that they are superior to others. In the two myths, Cupid and Psyche, and The Adventures of Odysseus, found in the Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Hamilton uses multiple characters to describe how the irresponsible use of power leads to damaging results. The abuse of power has the ability to cause emotional, mental, or physical pain among other individuals. It forces the individual with the power to ignore the consequences of any given situation, and it has the ability to transform the individual’s character. Thus, power is able to affect an individual negatively because it urges that individual to believe they are more superior to others which provides opportunities for that individual to misuse their power.…

My first example of Greek mythology that is used in advertising, does not particularly pertain to any one advertisement. We all see the advertisements that come on the television or on Billboard’s during the season of Valentine’s Day. More often than not, there happens to be a little figure that is broadcasted on these advertisements named Cupid. In Greek mythology, Cupid is the god of love and spreads romance, this is why we see Cupid present around the Valentine holiday.…
