Mac Viva Glam Ad Analysis Essay

For this assignment, I decided to analyze the MAC Viva Glam advertisement, featuring Miley Cyrus. Viva Glam is the name of the lipstick that the MAC company created in 1994 and ever since then, the company's ads have featured numerous famous musicians with Miley Cyrus being one of the most recent ones. In the ad, Cyrus is portrayed laying down on what seems to be a dance club floor. She is shown to be laying down in a suggestive position; her hands are tucked behind her head exposing her bust while she is seductively gazing into the camera. In addition, Miley's legs are outspread while being propped on the mirror wall. Cyrus's attire consists of a black bodysuit covered with jewels, which is made to function as a club attire. Since the floor and the wall on which Miley's legs are resting are made of mirrors, we can also see a reflection of a disco ball, which gives off the notion that the photo was meant to look as if it was taken inside of a nightclub. The overall look of the ad is also quite flashy. The primary colors, pink, black, and red, are meant to create a feeling of glam, extravagance, and sexiness. …show more content…
However, the lipstick itself plays a minimal role in the poster. Aside from Miley's lips being bright pink and the logo of Viva Glam, there is very little that suggests that this advertisement's purpose is to promote a cosmetic. Instead, Miley is portrayed in a nightclub, laying down in a sexy pose and wearing skimpy clothing, which gives of the feeling that MAC Cosmetics wants the consumer to associate their brand with fun, edginess, and sexuality. Thanks to the combination of vivid colors, Cyrus's sexy pose, and the soft look of her face and hair, MAC succeeds in portraying Cyrus as a wild partygoer with a sweet and romantic

This is a primary example of sex in today’s advertisement. Unlike other subtle advertising that require the works of our imagination, this advertising jumps straight to the point. These ads purposely get you to think of two things: sex and their products. Our brains have been hard-wired for billions of years to transform everything into sex. The marketers use this fact to target their customers.…

L’Oreal, Shiseido, Unilever, and Emami all share a common thread. They each, like many other make-up companies, make a profit off of colorism – prejudice against individuals with a dark skin tone – through the manufacture and sell of skin lighteners. The skin lightening industry is worth millions of dollars and is still growing in many countries around the world. The industry is booming for many reasons, such as: perceived benefits of light skin, the type of advertisements companies use, and a lack of governmental intervention despite the known consequences of using skin lighteners.…

In today’s society, beauty is defined by what we see from celebrities on social media and magazines. When one looks at thin, flawless models, it is hard to look in a mirror and call themself beautiful. “Easy, Breezy, beautiful, CoverGirl,” is a phrase that was found by CoverGirl and associated it with their brand. CoverGirl is a makeup brand that stresses every woman is beautiful and makeup is meant to enhance their natural beauty, not to cover it. A commercial I choose from CoverGirl shows that girls are able to do anything just as much as guys are able to.…

With any type of advertisement there is always some type of photographic piece which mainly focuses on the story you are trying to convey. In this ad you see a young girl, who look as if she is in her late teens, maybe early twenty’s, who has nothing attractive about her looks ,but has a hook coming from her mouth which symbolizes that with smoking you are trapped; once you are hooked it is hard to quit.
