1. Portrait of Helen Merrill by Helen Merrill and composed by Marian McPartland by panio

According to the narration of Ms. McPlantland, Helen Merrill birth name was Jelena Ana Milcetic and she was born in New York in 1930. She started singing in local jazz clubs at just the age of fourteen. Merrill time touring was mostly spent in europe after her irregular recording through the fifties and sixties. She had more commercial success there than she did in the United States. Merrill lived in Italy for a little while where she did live concerts with jazz notables Chet Baker, Romano Mussolini, and Stan Getz.

Being though the space was there it created a wide dragging and high pitch texture throughout the piece. the polyphony was in a two note accompany.
The piece volume was at a dynamic that was soft reasonable on the calm. In my own opinion i can see this piece being played at a ballet recital. The ballet dancer will be moving o so smoothly, following the pace of the music.
Conclusively the timbre is very visual in a way. The tone-color of the mid high pitch gives off a mellow , grayish blue feel thats follows through the piece. The tone-quality was rather pure; it contained an authentic sound. In the middle of the piece that natural feel gained a little classical booming for a slight moment then mellowed out.
In conclusion, I thought that “Portrails Of Helen Merrill” was a pleasant sound to listen to. Coming from someone that never actually listened to jazz pieces, this piece painted a a visual in my head. As I listen through the song different cool, clam and mellow feels occur throughout. that's why I chose this piece, it was one you can feel the composer was trying to

In the beginning and at the end they played some old Italian type music as the dancers moved as one person and this gave the impression of a sort of warm family vibe throughout this section. There was also an instance of an extremely loud and almost uncomfortable sound during a portion in the middle which allowed the mood of the audience to switch to disturbed or uneasy, which was simultaneously reflected in their dancing and movements on and off the main “dancing portion” of the stage. A powerful instance which occurred a couple times was when the music shut off completely and there was only the audiences breathing, and the heavy panting of the dancers that could be heard throughout the theatre. This clearly intentional choice not only made the concept intriguing, but it allowed the audience to a feel a level of connect and grounding with the dancers as well. Much of the music reflected the different colour changes on screen as it was more serene during the cloud projection, but it was fast and very loud when the screen went to red.…

    a. As I observed Country Band March, I recognized that the arrangement of the march is relatively a five-part sectional form that brings back the opening march theme in diverse appearances, rather than what you would customarily find in a true march structure. Two groundbreaking and useful methods used by Ives were the high intricate webbing of tunes, which would generate the impression of an amateur band’s performance abilities by having musicians play out of tune, prearranged bad entrances, and hit incorrect notes; and also the way he employs polytonality and polyrhythms, which would occur when the tunes would collide and intersect. b. From my perspective, I believe that this composition has a more “accessible” sound when compared…

The meter of the song is a 2/4 and has an A-B-A form. The rhythm of the song is similar throughout it had a long piece and then it went short, short then repeated itself. The ballet feels like a romantic love song that is happy and enchanting. The ballet deals with emotion, imagination, and magic. It is a very airy, sweet, and fluid work of art, I can see how it has gained so much popularity over the years as it gives a magical feeling when you watch…

The dynamics are much like the tempo. The dynamics go from piano to fortissimo. This shocked the audience’s nerves. They didn’t know what to expect from the dissonant notes, and how loud the music was going to be because it was constantly changing. There were many instruments used for the piece.…

This ballet is a masterpiece as you can tell in the beautiful backdrop for the final scene in the ballet created by Natalia Goncharova. This is a russian ballet and it needed a lot of russian bravura which was technically, and stamina wise very demanding. Not to mention my costume was a heavy, but beautiful red velvet jacket with pearls and gold embellishments. The room in which the Goncharova backdrop was displayed was incredibly moving with the music from the ballet rejoicing in your ear, and then you turn around to see a video presented by the English National Ballet that though was creative, seemed very distracting and…

1 in D major, “Titan,” was performed next. It was much longer in duration than the first piece. It showed uniqueness in that it incorporated everyday sounds into the music, such as bulge calls, bird songs, and dance tunes, which provided for a very wide variety of tone colors. The symphony began with a thick-textured undertone in the strings and a two-note “hunting call” in the woodwinds, which persisted throughout the piece. Also present was a bright fanfare in the trumpets, followed by a light descending melody played by the entire orchestra.…

The instruments are all moving quickly and playing different and conflicting parts all over one another, which creates an interesting and energetic sound. I liked having this energetic and lively section towards the end of the piece. It created anticipation and excitement while listening, while also revisiting some of the initial musical sections from the first movement. I thought that the revisiting of initial musical pieces tied the whole thing together, by showing the connection through the first and last movements. I thought it was interesting that this movement ended with a downbeat, as it initially started with an…

Claudio Monteverdi is an Italian composer from the Baroque period who was influential in the transition between Renaissance and Baroque music. Despite composing in all musical styles and genres of his time, Monteverdi defied past generation 's standards of composition. For example, he did not follow the rules governing the resolution of dissonances in that period. Like other composers of the Baroque period, Monteverdi had a big impetus to imitate reality through his music; he tried to humanize music by suggesting emotions through determined musical techniques. The composer enriched his compositions by creating new musical styles that can be comparable to the most basic emotions of human beings.…
