This essay will deal with the Nokia corporate how to carry out strategic management. Nokia is a company based in Finland which is a Multi-National Corporation mainly engaged in mobile communications products manufacturing .And the Nokia Networks ; location intelligence business and ‘Nokia Technologies, which is focused on technology development and intellectual property rights activities’ are the strong businesses of Nokia corporate. (Nokia,2015)The aim of this essay is analysis the links between Porter’s theory of generic competitive strategies and practice of Nokia.

‘ The origins of Nokia lie in three old companies: Nokia Forest and Power, the Finnish Rubber Works and the Finnish Cable Works, which merged in 1966 to form Nokia Corporation.’ (Aspara,2011)Until 1977, Kairamo believed Finnish manufacturers like Nokia could ride the consumer-electronics wave into the global marketplace. (Silberman, 1999).And then, Nokia used Focus strategies focus on manufacturer of mobile phones,gradually became the leader in the mobile phone industry. In 1993, the first Nokia digital cellular telephone hit the market.(PAI,2015) It was also the first GSM mobile phone called 1011. At this stage, Nokia to make full use of Differentiation strategy to create new products and thus make Motorola , the world 's first sold mobile phone company , in the competition with Nokia unfortunately defeated. In 2011, Nokia’s CEO Elop warned staff ‘we are standing on a burning platform’, ‘and announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft days later to compete with Apple and Google 's Android platform.’(Monaghan,2013).In 2013, ‘Samsung achieving a record 28.7 per cent overall market share. Meanwhile, Nokia had collapsed further, recording a share of 15.5 per cent, down six percentage points’.(Peter,2014) In the next two years, Nokia was fully suppressed by apple, Motorola, HTC, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and resulting in a decrease in market
