1.0 Porter’s National Diamond Analysis of Sri Lanka Tourism
1.1 Introduction
Sri Lanka is naturally endowed various type of tourist attractions include eight World Heritage sites, sandy beaches, culture and history, national parks, wildlife, rain forests and archaeological sites. Currently the average length of stay for a tourist is up to 9.9 nights. Tourism becomes one of the largest and rapid growth service sectors after the civil war end on mid of 2009 in Sri Lanka. There are thousands of new job opportunities in tourism sector while local and foreign tourists explore the north area of the country after end of civil war on mid of 2009. In year 2015, there is about 1.8m tourists visited Sri Lanka and it is 17.8% increase from year 2014 and

In this kind of situations, tourism industry in Sri Lanka facing the challenges of not enough skill labour in hospitality and tourism industry. Meanwhile, some local institute such as Sri Lanka Tourism and Hotel Management, Universities like Sabaragamuwa and Uva-Wellassa and private colleges bring out more than 4,000 train personnel but it still not enough to fulfil the rapid growth and expansion of the hotel industry. Besides, quality of those train graduate is not adequate especially the proficiency in English and other important language like Mandarin is not receive enough attention in the training program. Therefore, the shortage of skill and train personnel still is a big challenge in the hospitality industry facing in coming few …show more content…
By increasing of the strong local market demand will help local firm become more competitive in global trends.
Niche market interest in tea tourism
There are increasing of local demand on the niche market interest such as tea tourism and this give local firm begin to develop tea tourism in the hill country like Badulla which will cause the local tea tourism become more innovate focus to develop their tea tourism in hill country. By develop the tea tourism it will attract more international tourist who like to explore natural and eco-friendly visit hill country.
Diverse range of domestic tourist in sophisticated and low budget tourism activities
Cricket is the world 's second most popular after as football, and it is famous among British and Ireland, West Indies, the Indian subcontinent and southern Africa. Cricket is the most popular sport in Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka is one the five nations that has won a cricket world cup.
