In the first paragraph of essay A, there was a meaningful introduction to the quote that was later used. Even before reading the quote, I already had an idea on what the quote was about and how it was used as evidence for the argument. I thought that there should have been a better transition from the writer’s voice to the author’s voice because it felt like there was a sense of urgency when the writer said, “He later states that...”. The writer should have included more information before the quote to show the relevance of that quote. Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. When comparing two different pieces of writing, it is important to assess the differences between the pieces’ tones and purposes. The experience I chose to use in my essay was my interaction with Wattpad and how it affected my writing. I focused not only on the functionality on the app and how I used it to enhance my writing abilities but also on the components that enabled it develop the many different communities that it possess. I personally enjoyed reading the article; I liked Jones writing style. I liked how he managed to combine the 3 modes of persuasion in good manner that the reader enjoys the article and does not feel like it is a typical an academic, boring article. I was one of those people that believe that liberal arts majors have no future or simply do not have a future job as good as other major.
