Por-Bajin Research Paper

Great Essays
Abstract
Located in southern Siberia, just 20 miles north of Mongolia you can find one of Russia’s most mysterious archaeological sites. Por-Bajin, also known as “clay house” in the Tuvan language, is the name of the site, and it is located on a small island in lake Tere-Khol. Although there has been archeological work done at the site, the purpose of Por-Bajin remains unknown. We believe that uncovering the true purpose of this site will give the world a greater understanding of history in this part of the world. In this paper we examine the existing theories, look at previous archaeological work and propose a project that we believe we help us find the truth. We propose using a combination of previously unused (or limited use) archaeological

We believe that they will be interested in further investigation of Por-Bajin and provide us with professional assistance. With the funding we will receive from the Por-Bajin Cultural Foundation, universities and international organizations, our project will attract talents across multiple academic fields including geology, architecture, archaeology and history. The expected timeline for this project is 1 year. The first 6 months will be the main excavation of the east side of Por-Bajin. In the next two months, artifacts will be collected, classified and shipped to our lab in the Russian Academy of Sciences. In-depth analysis will happen in the last 4 months. We plan on hiring a diverse staff with expertise in both technical and theoretical archaeology, geology, and history. We also will look to employ college students as interns to help us with the administrative tasks. Also important to our research is that we maintain strong relationships with the local population and environment. There is a very small population in the area nearing Por-Bajin, and we absolutely plan on contacting them to hear out their opinions on what we should or shouldn’t do in our proposal. It is very important to us to also contact leaders of the modern day Uighurs and try to include them in a significant

We will take into consideration the soil samples, weather, the methods used to excavate, remains, sampling strategies, test pits sizes, and the personnel that worked in the project. Artifacts will also be sketched, photographed, and taken to the lab for further analysis. Based on the information we already have about the site and the methods used to excavate, I can assume that the site became abandoned all at one time. If it has been gradually abandoned over time, not everyone would have been able to fix at the site, since many of its rooms were burned. Being one of the three largest Pueblos, I believe it was one of the last to be abandoned as…

In this critique of Kasia Szpakowska’s book, Daily Life in Ancient Egpyt, I am going to discuss her purpose, my likes and dislikes, her use of images, and how I felt this book related to this course. Daily Life in Ancient Egypt was an excellent choice for this course. The information supplements the in-class lectures by providing sufficient information into the life of the mundane versus the life of the rulers and pharaohs. It provides information that is clear and concise so the reader doesn’t have to dissect the information and gains a clear understanding of real life for the Ancient Egyptians. In addition, this book is a good reference for other classes in ancient civilizations as well as a reference for those of us who are going on to teach…

The significance of the battle I have chose not only made Texas safer, but it also gave birth to our states national park! My bucket list dream is to travel the United States and to see all major historical landmarks. Without the Battle of Palo Duro Canyon, the Texas-Indian War would not have ended. Of course history would take a different course to have eased these tensions had this battle not occurred, but it certainly would not be as epic of a tale as the one written about in this paper. Palo Duro Canyon is the most dynamite and beautiful scene highlight in the Panhandle of Texas.…

Over five hundred years ago, cleric Diego de Landa approached an abandoned society lost in the jungles of Central America. His findings led him to make assumptions of these people he marked as savages. De Landa denounced these people as “idolatry, divorce, sacrificial, and slave traders” (qtd. in Gibson 13). Nearly three centuries after de Landa’s account, the U.S explorer John Lloyd Stephens noted his discovery of an altar among the ruins of a Central American city called Copán, with the company of British architect Fredrick Catherwood (Gibson 13).…

The search for the origins of humankind and the earliest human ancestor has intrigued anthropologists for generations. New evidence, while often scarce, is a vital aspect to the understanding and development of the field of paleoanthropology. Current research aids in the modification of the human ancestral tree and the analysis of various sites. One of the newest sites dealing with human evolution is the Rising Star cave system in South Africa, where a new species of human ancestors, Homo naledi, was discovered. Because of its modernity, quick excavation, and controversial conclusions, the site of the Rising Star cave system is still being actively researched.…

Agency Theory in Archaeology Contemporary archaeological inquiry has situated itself under the umbrella of anthropology, an open marriage to many different ways of analyzing material culture; as it gives insight to both the physical world, as well as the social-cultural world. In this paper, I will discuss some of the beginnings to this union, and specifically the theory of agency as it relates to archaeological analysis. I enter into the debate among archaeology scholars by proposing that the theory of agency is a useful paradigm to the analysis of material culture, and adds a dimension beyond the artifacts of the past themselves - deepening the analysis and understanding. It is apparent after many years of the development of archeological…

My grandfather served in the United States Navy in World War II where our ships encountered what was to them a new style of fighter: the Kamikaze pilot. The Kamikaze pilot was an individual who would quite literally drive a Mitsubishi Zero plane that was unequipped with guns and flew their planes directly into American ships to keep them away from reaching Japan. The word Kamikaze has an ancient origin. Literally translated it means “divine wind.” Kamikaze was used for close to a thousand years to refer to the two storms that saved the Japanese mainland from the fleets of the emperor Kublai Khan.…

The Amazon Warrior Women were races of very tough warrior tribes made completely of women. They often despised men, and would kill their child if it was not born a female. Some references to the Amazons were found in Homer’s the Iliad, which is an epic poem about the Trojan War. They are also referenced in the works of the Greek Historian Herodotus, where he tells the story of a tribe of warrior women that lost a battle, were enslaved, but killed their Greek captors on the ship. However, they did not know how to sail a ship, so they coasted around the black sea until they intermarried with some Scythian men.…

    Jomon Pottery Essay

In prehistoric art, the term "Jomon", which means "cord pattern" in Japanese ,refers to the ancient pottery produced by Japan's first Stone Age culture, during the period 14,500 and 1000 BCE. It was named Jomon pottery by the American zoologist Edward S. Morse (1838-1925), who excavated the first known examples of Jomon ceramic art from the Omori shell-mound near Tokyo. Because all the recovered sherds had marks of twisted cords on their exterior surfaces, Morse gave them the name "Jomon". In fact, the name "Jomon" is now used to describe the entire prehistoric culture of Japanese art, a culture which began in the era of Paleolithic Art, and continued throughout the period of Neolithic Art, before finishing about 300 BCE, towards the end of…
