Would it not make sense that if a candidate receives more votes from actual American citizens that they should become president because it is clearly who the majority of people want? The Electoral College puts the power in the hands of only a small group of representatives instead of the American citizens. Source A shows that Al Gore won the popular vote with 50,456,062 votes, but since George Bush won the Electoral College by 5 votes, Bush won the presidency. Clearly, the majority of United States citizens wanted Al Gore to run the country. These numbers show that it is truly not the American citizens’ decision on who becomes president, but instead the small amount of representatives from each state. These claims may have been true in 1787 when Source C was written, but in the 21st century any American can grab their phone or computer and look anything they want to up about a candidate and find out in a matter of seconds. There is almost always information running across the news that millions of Americans watch each day about the presidential election. Technology allows for citizens to be more informed about the candidates and therefore allowing them to make a more educated and informed choice on who they agree with
