In “How to make a memoir”, Zinsser gave three pieces of advice for if you want to write your own memoir. Those three pieces of advice are “Be yourself”, “Speak freely”, and “Think small”. In the memoir I’m reading called “Popular” by Maya Van Wagenen followed some of Zinsser’s advice because of her words she use and how she don’t care if she goofy in front of other people.

Zinsser’s first piece of advice is to “Be yourself”. “Be yourself” means that you don’t care what people say about you. Maya followed this piece of advice because on page 15 Maya stated,” I’m average looking. Trust me I’m not complaining.” Maya was being herself in those two sentences because when she said,” Trust me I’m not complaining.” She’s clearly saying

I would never ever tell anybody my crush name even if I’m over him. Anyway let’s get back on topic, another piece of advice I pulled from the text was on page 149. Maya stated, “My butt has giant purple stripes across it.” Let’s be honest would you ever talk about your butt in your memoir…I know for sure I wouldn’t. I mean it is personal, but that’s her memoir.

Finally the last piece of advice Zinsser gave is to “Think small”. Maya didn’t think small, but how ever she did tell her own story. While I was reading I noticed it didn’t have quotes until like the tenth page, and it was all in her point of view. Maya didn’t think small because think small means to write a paragraph or two about that curtain event. Maya did not think small because almost every chapter is like ten pages long.

“Popular” is a good book, so if you want to make your own memoir about your life when you grow up you can just use Zinsser’s three pieces of

My preferred hardback is Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is teeming of commotion and peril as well as phyletic cultural and racial metamorphoses which unlocked my eyes to a whimsical world of hijinks plus adventure in which this lowly bored to death 12 year old boy who grew up in a single parent home amid three sisters in the early 80’s in the course of a worn out sweltering summer day in lonely old Enola, PA. I so delight in the mishaps of Huck Fin despite lacking a mother in addition to having a drunk for a father. However, Huck was fortunate to have Window Douglas who provided him with clothing, home, as well as an impending unforeseen friendship in spite of her overbearing sister Miss Watson. Hope’s main concern is that John and Maya don't end up with a relationship like the one she has with her dad. Her father was an important piece in their family, by providing all of the income, but failed at creating a bond with his children. When Hope's mother passed, Hope picked up the responsibilities that her mother took care of while her father was completely lost on raising kids. Hope has logical reasons to fear that her husband and daughter could end up that way, because of the way things were headed. The possibility of Maya remembering the events that took place while she was an infant is very unlikely, so there was still plenty of time for her husband and daughter to form a healthy relationship.…

It is well known and accepted for everyone in schools, workplaces, or other social happenings, that we are divided into two groups, those who are popular, and those who aren’t. To me, what it means to be popular is to be liked by the majority of people, and/or to be accepted by those who are also popular. Although, what makes people like oneself or not is different. There are reasons multiple people would like someone, such as, one’s personality, one’s looks, the money one has,, the brands one wears and buys, the activities one does, and many more. Reasons they might not like a person could be very valid, though.…

Being myself is effortless over attempting to mimic others’ behaviors. When I am true to myself, I am not required to stress so much about anyone contradicting or having negative opinions to say when I do not choose the same decisions as them. The pressure to look like everyone around and conform to society decreases as I learn my own self worth. Showing my own character by doing what I trust is correct, dressing the way I am comfortable in and by not letting people's opinion influence my decisions , has permitted me to grow as a person. For example, I participate in activities that I enjoy and take classes that I find accommodating, to allow myself to stay true to myself.…

Imagery is dominant in this poem, especially after Maya questions her oppressors. Most of the imagery is conveyed through similes and metaphors, and gives the readers a clear view on what Maya is trying to get across. The use of figurative language gives the readers a clear picture of what Maya means and usually conveys a strong emotion. When Maya says “Shoulders falling down like teardrops” we can get an image of drooping shoulders (like the shape of a tear) and the tear itself is associated with sadness. I found one particular stanza quite amusing; Maya asks questions that are aimed at the ‘white’ people.…
