Technology has a monumental impact on society and in the way we live our day-to-day lives. Its simplified the most mundane tasks, such as making in-store purchases, by developing more innovative and effective ways to reduce our routinely and tiresome duties. For example, apps such as Google Wallet and Apple Pay, help consumers make transactions through their phones instead of swiping their credit cards. This new form of technology makes in-store transactions much easier and phone-friendly for end-users and companies alike. Food restaurants such as Chick-fil-A, have also jumped on this new innovative bandwagon by allowing customers to make in-restaurant purchases wirelessly through the Google Wallet and Apple Pay apps.…

As a leader, it is important that one is concerned about the well-being and development of his or her employees. Coupled with genuine concerns about employees, servant leadership is “demonstrated by empowering and developing people with empathy and humility” (Mittal & Dorfman, 2012 p. 1). The founder of Chick-fil-a, understood that an employee’s attitude affected the company’s bottom line, so S. Truett Cathy sought to serve his customers and employees by instituting dining areas that were not indicative of fast-food restaurant, but of fine-dining such as flowers, and he believed that employees deserved a day of rest, so all of the franchises are closed on Sunday. His commitment to customers and staff members exemplified a servant leader.…

Leadership styles include democratic, autocratic, laissez-faire as well as servant leadership. Of the varied styles, servant leadership is the most appealing and interesting to study as it draws attention to the servant leader, “as one who is a servant first” (Greenleaf, 1977). Likewise, Spears and Lawrence (2002) have suggested that at its core, servant leadership is a long-term, transformational approach to life and work (p. 4). Over the years, many leaders have emerged and because of their actions, performance, and traits they are hailed as servant leaders. This includes, but is not limited to: Pope Francis, also known as Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Fannie Lou Hamer, Ella Baker, Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglass, and W.E.B. Du Bois.…

After mentioning to Hans and Johnny of Tawney's Restaurant that I previously worked at the Menzies and Chelsea Restaurants in Sydney, I started that night, after just a week in Cairns. Suffering from the lavish expenditure of those bosses, the restaurant hired organist Les Dixon on weekends to pick up sales. This largely gay clientele drank the bar dry, yet the takings never improved and Hans and Johnny left. A new manager, uncultivated and ill-mannered, accused the bar staff of not charging the gays for their drinks.…
