Pop Tab Dress Analysis

Many times dreams stay irrational possibilities of doing something. Yet even the craziest of dreams still hold a glimmer of hope. Throughout my childhood an interest in recycled crafts began to stem. I thrived on the idea of creating art with garbage. For years I imagined constructing a recycled dress to attend the junior prom. I never let go of my hope, and on January 24, 2014, at the age of fourteen, I made the first step toward completion. That day the first pop tab was woven into a strand of 66 pop tabs. 794 days later, through every challenge and struggle, the pop tab dress had grown to 5,533 tabs and was completed. By taking this risk of designing a pop tab dress, I learned the importance of diligence and persistence. Constructing this dress taught me determination …show more content…
Generally, I refrain from taking many risks. Instead, I tend to set realistic and practical goals for myself. However, I decided to take the risk this time. For the first year and a half I kept the dress a secret, sharing only with family and a few friends. Due to the number of uncertainties regarding my project, I decided to keep my work a secret incase I never managed to complete the pop tab dress. I was afraid of letting down my friends and not being able to keep my word. Looking back, I allowed the risk of failure to inhibit my work. Fear almost defeated me. This experience has taught me the benefits risk taking.
Having this opportunity to design and construct a dress has taught me the significance of taking a risk and remaining diligent. I hope to further use my knowledge at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. College life requires risk taking and being able to learning from those experiences. Additionally, challenges are expected to rise. However, staying diligent will benefit me significantly in the future. I am excited to use all I have learned in the near future and begin a new chapter in my

You may not fear the work, specifically, but rather it can regularly tackle a more profound importance. The key is to confide in your own particular capacity to adapt to whatever happens. Doing things carefully, paying little mind to the result could help in this case. I would not like to endeavor. In the event that I was going to stop, I needed to realize that I had put forth a valiant effort.…

QUESTIONING CREDIBILITY Dianne Rockenstein, who received her Bachelor's degree in psychology and Master's degree in counseling psychology, wrote a public review discussing Daphne Scholinski's memoir The Last Time I Wore a Dress. With her review on the memoir, she mentions Scholinski consistent behavior of wanting to stretch the truth, wanting to be in control, and exemplifying bad behavior (Rockenstein, 1). She further highlights the other issues that surrounded Daphne being committed to a mental hospital such as parental issues, substance abuse, and her actions and clothing not being what is seen as an appropriate female in the eyes of the public (Rockenstein, 2). Following her description of the Daphne's memoir, Rockenstein argues that Gender Identity Disorder is not the sole diagnosis for being in the mental hospital, and that Daphne giving this as being the main reason for her…

In her article “Performing Genres: Sarah Edmonds’ Nurse and Spy and the Case of the Cross-Dressed Text”, Jane E. Schultz discusses the interconnection between the form and the content of Sarah Edmonds’s book Soldier, Nurse and Spy (1864). She begins with the general information about the text and proceeds to the phenomenon/issue of cross-dressing as the main distinction/characteristic of the given story. According to Schultz, Edmonds’s book is one of the first stories of cross-dressed women during the American Civil War (73): it was published in 1864, during the War, and was sold in the quantity over 175,000 copies. The idea of cross-dressed women in American literature seems to be yet older; Edmonds book has such fictional antecedents as The…

The cultural ties to empire are not so easy to efface as the political ones. In the past half century, this is perhaps one of the most important lessons the world has learned from the movement towards the independence of the part of European colonies. Some countries become England colonies including Asia, India, Africa, and some parts of North America. Although these countries are no longer dependent on the British colonies, the residual effect of colonial domination is still remain nowadays. Growing up in the small island in Antigua, which was once the colony of the British Empire, Kincaid has written many short stories and autobiographical essays to express her anger and hatred toward England.…

Kellie, The Dress for Success organization sounds like a wonderful charity. The organization states that it believes that, “Every woman has the right to realize her full potential and achieve financial independence in a more egalitarian world. We believe that with the proper education, tools and action this world is possible” (Dress for Success, 2016, para.4). By teaching and equipping these women with knowledge gained through “mock interviewing” and the delivery of “interviewing tips” (Speed, 2016, para.2), Dress for Success will be on the path toward achieving its goal. Rangan (2004) stated that “Nonprofits should pick a niche, craft an operational mission and, flowing from it, formulate a coherent strategy platform” (p.9).…

Growing up in Germany, and being told by boutique sales people that I didn’t have the “body type” for some of the fashions I loved and wanted, I decided to start designing and creating outfits for my sister and me. As I made dresses, skirts and jackets for the two of us, I became more and more interested in making sure our outfits, either homemade or store-bought fit us perfectly and looked fabulous. During this time, I also completed my Bachelors degree in Women’s Custom Tailoring, as well as a one year dress making internship and a three year dress making apprenticeship. Over the years, this interest in perfecting the fit and appearance of our wardrobes turned into the full-blown passion that I bring to the work I do for my customers…

Have you ever wondered why it is so hard for women to be big business owners but it is not the same for men? Living as a citizen of the United States I discovered that I have an overwhelming desire for children’s fashion. Being as a mother of two boys I’ve also noticed the slight struggle parents have to go through while trying to find clothes for their children. As time goes by, this struggle compelled me to think, “what if I had my own company, would I be doing the same thing?”…
