Are my mom and dad screen addicts? It depends on really what you’re asking. My mom may go on like Facebook for like 5 minutes. Mainly when she’s on her phone it's texting, calling or it’s just talking to her friend or someone. But if you're talking about video games my mom doesn’t play them that much. But when he's on his phone it is mainly calls and not much texting and sometimes work. If you're talking about games , he plays this one game , but he only plays it when me and my brother are doing something.

According to the article “Why You’re Addicted to TV” by Andrew Romano, on average, Americans watch more than five hours of television a day and in comparison to this statistic fact, I consider myself a healthy television watcher. Definitely, I don’t spend more than five hours daily setting in front of the TV or my computer watching shows or anything else. For sure, the primary reason for this is school since I have too many homework and new material to study and review. Moreover, I usually work 20 to 25 hours per week, which also takes a lot of time from my schedule. However, I do admit that when I have a less busy schedule like on vacations, I can probably watch more than ten episodes on Netflix per day and I will be under the classification…

When we think about addiction, the mind goes to one thing--negative, because that is the only kind there is. No type of positive addiction exists, but we like to think an extreme love for a hobby is an addiction. If a love for a hobby is immense, you are not dependent upon that activity; you enjoy it, so hobbies are not addictions if they have positive effects and stimuli. On the contrary, addictions form from passions.…

Author Nicholas G. Carr refuses media screen addiction claiming, “There's nothing unusual about this. We routinely become dependent on popular, useful technologies. If people were required to live without their cars or their indoor plumbing for a day, many of them would probably resort to the language of addiction to describe their predicament. I know that, after a few hours, I'd be seriously jonesing for that toilet. What's important is to be able to see what's happening as we adapt to a new technology - and the problem with the addiction metaphor is that it makes it too easy to avert our eyes (Car 2010).”…

Some would argue that it isn’t an addiction, but as Marc Potenza, author of “Teens and Screen Time Is a Problem, But More Study Is Needed,” puts it: “screen time can be easily categorized as an addiction because it meets the most useful definition as addiction, the three C’s: Compulsive use, Lack of control while using, and Continuation despite severe consequences.” Potenza wants people to realize that individuals who stay glued to their screens even as they begin to experience major problems in functioning, in ways are not far from those dealing with substance abuse and gambling disorders. Although Potenza feels that screen time should be categorized as an addiction in teens, he also realizes that more research is needed for screen time to be known as a addiction. Danah Boyd, the author of “Blame Society, Not the Screens”, would disagree with Potenza and digs deeper into the “so called” addiction that teens seem to be developing. When Boyd began her research she expected to find what everyone is claiming to be the addiction, completely wrong.…
