Poor nutrition eats away at people like a disease. While not considered a disease itself, it leads to so many negative outcomes it mine-as-well be called one. However, the improper nutrition of our population doesn’t always showcase itself in the ways that we think. When confronted with the words, “improper nutrition”, the vast majority of people are automatically going to think of a very gaunt, frail looking person who has little access to food and water. Contrary to this belief however, there are huge amounts of people walking around with ample access to food sources but who could easily be considered malnourished in the sense that they don’t take in anywhere near the balanced amount of calories, vitamins, and nutrients. Caused by many economic, geographic, and sociologic factors, these populations need support in order to help fight this epidemic of negative health consequences through intervention. The main two ways we can do this is through ensuring access to affordable nutritious food stuffs to rural and inner city populations, and to better educate our populations not only on what is nutritious, but how to best incorporate those items into their life. …show more content…
People need to be able to understand how to prepare the food they have in a nutritious and satisfying way. We as a population have become so infatuated with fast food that many families now don’t have a caregiver that feels comfortable cooking nutritious meals for their family. According to a study done by Le Cordon Bleu in 2012, the average amount of home cooked meals eaten by a family of 4 in a week is only 4 (2012)! This is staggering, meaning that the average American family typically eats out at least 3 nights a week! The same grassroots education programs then not only need to ensure their population understands the basics of nutrition, but also need to provide training and imbue the confidence to cook healthy meals for their
