“When something bad happens you have 3 choices , you can either let it define you, let it destroy you or let it strengthen you.” by an unknown person. You have to keep going or you won’t move at all.
Being a greaser means that bad things will happen no matter what. You can either give up or toughen up. Johnny’s first choice was the choice that changed Ponyboy’s life, by taking another's. Ponyboy had decided to run away and Johnny helped him. Then they got attacked by soces. Johnny stabbed the soc leader, bob, to save Ponyboy. They had to leave everything behind to get away from the police, who always took the soces side. The church they were hiding in caught on fire because while they were out and about their still lit cigarettes lit up.There were kids that were playing inside at the time and were caught inside. Ponyboy and Johnny rush in to save them. They get the kids out, but they are still in. The roof starts to cave in and Johnny forces Ponyboy out. The church implodes and Johnny is still inside and Ponyboy passes out. Later, after Ponyboy wakes up he finds out that Johnny is in the hospital and that he might have broken his back when the roof fell. A few days later Johnny died. “the pillow seemed to sink a little.” p.g. 148. Ponyboy starts to get bad grades and gets tough, like eney other greaser. On a certain day greasers come to beat then up and Ponyboy threatens them with a busted bottle. At school he starts failing his favorite class and can’t focus. One night Ponyboy’s reading a book that he and Johnny had been reading at the church and a note falls out. “You still have a lot of time to make yourself be what you want. There’s still lots of good in the world. Tell Dally. I don’t think he knows.” p.g. 178. “Stay gold” (quote from Johnny.)
Through choices, Johnny killing the soc, Ponyboy and Johnny had to leave. Than Johnny and pony saved kids from a burning church. From that Johnny dies because of a beam falling and breaking his back. Ponyboy became tough and sulky than he
