The town of Pompeii was large and situated in the Italian region of Campania and was originally settled near the mouth of the river Sarno. Pompeii originally formed from a previous explosion of Mt. Vesuvius. The area surrounding the town of Pompeii was rich and fertile land due to the volcanic soil and the favorable climate also helped in growing olives and grapes. The city was also a very valuable port city and many cities near Pompeii would transfer their goods to the city to get their goods across the entire empire. The town of Pompeii was originally founded by Saminites and in the 4th century of B.C.E was when Rome first started to influence the city of Pompeii. Before the rediscovery many locals told the story of the city buried by ash but, it was just an old wives tale until it was rediscovered making the story now a documentation of the events that took places over a thousand years ago. Archeologists found out many things about Roman culture and lifestyle through the remains of Pompeii. One thing found out by archeologist was that using bronze was more common in Roman art than they had previously thought when they found many bronze statues5. Many things were found in the city of Pompeii, especially body casts. When the ash covered the city it covered every body within the city, this allowed archeologists to get a glimpse at what exactly the people of Pompeii looked like, how old they were, and sometime even who they were. Some archeologists were able to inject wax with the body casts to create a full replica of the person. One body that was found and had CT scans taken of it show a boy no more than four years old frozen in fear lying next to, what archeologists presume to be his parents along with another small child lying on the female's lap, sleeping. The scans taken of the boy and his family show that they suffered from extreme head wounds caused by their house collapsing under the weight of debris from the volcano6.
