Polychaetes, or bristle worms are a diverse classification of worms common in the ocean and may be found swimming in deep waters, drifting near the surface, burrowing in sand or muds or inhabiting hydrothermal vents and whale falls. They have segmented bodies with paddle-like appendages (called parapodia) on each segment, and bristles or chaetae that may be used for walking, crawling, swimming, digging or protection, depending on the type of polychaete.
Errant polychaetes are active swimmers that are free living scavengers or predators.
Sedentary polychaetes are not active swimmers, typically deposit or filter feed, and are considered tube dwellers or burrowers, residing in tubes that they have built themselves using bottom material such as

This experiment was conducted to determine the effects of environmental factors on the regeneration of planarian tail length. Regeneration is the process of regrowth and repair of body parts. This process can occur in many organisms, especially in planaria. The effect of light exposure (full light, shade, dark) on the regeneration of tail lengths of planaria, Dugesia tigrina, was used to test the hypothesis that planarian will regenerate more when placed in complete darkness. 12 planaria were used total in this experiment, 4 in each exposure of light.…

The Egyptian people of the Predynastic period show that even before domestication, mankind was familiar with these animals. Archaeologists unearthed wild cat remains that were consciously put into human graves in Predynastic sites such as al-Badari and Abydos (CITE). In the eleventh Dynasty, there was a painting found at Koptos, Egypt that depicted a cat sitting behind the feet of a woman; this activity and depiction suggest that the woman had some kind of protection and control over the cat. By the Twelfth dynasty archaeologists were making discoveries of up to seventeen mummified cats, with what they speculate was offerings of milk, in the tombs of the elite; suggesting that these animals had some kind of significance in the lives of humans…

The term Scythians refers to the warrior nomads who inhabited the Black Sea region in the Early Iron Age, the territory of the present-day Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, and Russia. They appear in ancient historical sources as remarkably vivid nomadic groups who embraced a powerful domination over neighbouring populations in Early Iron Age Eurasia. Even though the main driving force of this supremacy were cultural factors they had to differ from other human groups also in terms of biological and demographic structures (e.g. health status, mortality and life expectancy). The aim of the present study was to assess the biological state and dynamics of the Scythian population from the Black Sea region. We assume that Scythians, due to their lifestyle and remarkable position, were characterized by relatively low fertility, low mortality and higher life expectancy compared with other populations of similar chronology.…

In contrast to most sea creatures, these unique critters “live on the skeletons of whales, which drift down to the ocean floor” (Ennis). Because zombie worms are attached to the whale bones, they must use them to contribute to their diet. These ocean animals “lack a mouth and gut, [so] the worms drill into the bones [to] extract the stored nutrients” (Ennis). Without this adaptation, zombie worms would starve and die. Zombie worms also have an additional way to digest food through their bodies; they “[use] a process called symbiosis, in which the worms depend on the internal bacteria to digest the fats and oils extracted from their whale-bone diet” (Ennis).…
