Odysseus has faced many challenges, such as being captured by Calypso, The God of The Sea out to get him and an insane cyclops who just wants to consume Odysseus and his crew. Homer portrays Polyphemus’ violent and gullible personality by his speech and action.
Homer reveals Polyphemus’ violent persona through his action and speech. In The Odyssey written by Homer, Odysseus is referring to Polyphemus when he states“Neither reply nor pity came from him/but in one stride he clutched my companions [...] Then he dismembered them and made his meal/gaping and crunching like a mountain lion” (ln.277-282). His violent behavior comes through his actions as he consumes Odysseus’s crew. Furthermore in the epic, Polyphemus proclaims “Nohbdy will not get out alive, I swear” [...] “Bashed by this hand and bashed on this rock wall/his brains would strew the floor, and I should have/rest from outrage Nohbdy worked upon me” (ln.454-559).
