Polygamy is the practice of marrying more than one spouse. The two forms of polygamy include polygyny (the practice of one man marrying more than one wife-more common) and polyandry the practice of one woman marrying more than one husband). These forms are well known as sisters wives and brothers husbands. While the rest of us are all focused on the human right of marriage equality or freedom of marriage, it is important not to forget that the fight doesn’t end with same-sex marriage. We need to legalize polygamy. The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America requires that freedom of lifestyle choice not be infringed upon by the Federal Government. Polygamy is a lifestyle choice. Legalized polygamy in the United States is a constitutional, feminist, and sex-positive choice. More importantly, it would actually help protect, empower, and strengthen women, children, and families. Contrary to popular belief, polygamy is usually NOT about sexual experience and it is not a sexual practice or orientation. It is a lifestyle in which multiple partners enter into an arrangement of marriage. Most polygamist families consist of one man and multiple wives. Those wives are almost always prohibited from engaging in sexual activity with each other. By having polygamous marriage in practice, we can lessen a considerable number of burdens such as financial hardship, domestic strife, everyday stresses, which are truly the main causes of divorcing and…
