Sociological thinking has evolved over the decades to viewing polygamy as wrong and immoral. In the book “Introduction to Sociology” by Anthony Giddens, polygamy is defined as “a marriage that allows a husband or wife to have more than one spouse” (Giddens 439). Giddens continues to talk about monogamy which is defined as “married partner is allowed only one spouse at any given time” (Giddens 438). In early societies polygamy was more widely accepted because it made sense to have more than one wife. The concept was simple the more children you have, the easier it was to divide the labor up between them. This was all before industrialization, once the industrial revolution came people began favoring monogamy more. Today, in several countries
