Polyethylene consists of a long chain of carbon atoms, which two hydrogen atoms attached to each carbon atom. Instead of having hydrogens attached to them, it can have long chains or branches of polyethylene attached to them as shown in figure 2. This is called low density polyethylene. When there is no branching, it is called linear polyethylene. Linear polyethylene is stronger than branched polyethylene, however branched polyethylene is cheaper and easier to create (Chem1.com, 2016).
