Poll Mall Places

The mountains of East Tennessee are filled with places of splendor and beauty. Places like The Great Smokey Mountains and the Big South Fork national parks come to mind. These places are of course filled with beauty unmatched by any in the United States. However, one place rivals these two like no other; that would be Pall Mall in Northern Fentress County. Pall Mall is situated in the Wolf River Valley on the Kentucky-Tennessee Border. Pall Mall is town of just over a thousand people and embodies Southern small-town living to the best extent of any town in East Tennessee. This small-town atmosphere is what makes Pall Mall the most beautiful small town in the mountains of East Tennessee. While only a thousand people call Pall Mall home they seem to embraces the roots that it offers as such with it being the birthplace of Sergeant Alvin C. York and the sight of his post-war homestead with his wife Miss Gracie. The Wolf River flows through the middle of Pall Mall and onto the burial site of Alvin York and his relatives. When the Fentress County Rotary Club scrounged enough money together to purchase enough property in the river bottoms in the Wolf River Valley. It was widely considered some of the best farmland in the state and was the only fair compensation available to the most decorated war hero in World War I. Alvin C. York was widely considered the most well-known Fentress County native and continually fought for education in the state senate which resulted in the creation of York Institute. York’s’ contributions can be seen all over Fentress County and the small town of Pall Mall. York’s’ progressive thinking led to the absolute and uncontainable beauty that only the Wolf River Valley can command.
