Considering the facts that the cost of living has increased, the amount of money needed to support a healthy lifestyle is no longer achievable. Education is essential if one wishes to work, and the cost of education has increased drastically in the past twenty years. Today, the standards for obtaining a superior job are unrealistic for an uneducated citizen. The US government should raise the guaranteed annual wage; to ensure an uneducated person can maintain an average lifestyle, motivate the lower class to be more independent, and make raising a family easier.

Without the ability to get education and receive a better income, a person is left with nothing but to work for a minimum wage job. Growing up with poor parents in a poor neighborhood should not be an excuse for getting an education since they cannot afford it. Raising the minimum wage will not only help students attend college, but it will also help students in college to live a healthy lifestyle. In Tamara Keith's article,“Politics in Real Life: The Struggle to Pay For College” students tell stories about the hardships they face while working a job along with going to class. “At least once a semester, I face a time where I am like, 'I am broke. I am stressed. I am exhausted.' And I don't know how I'm going to make it through the rest of the semester,” said Monica Nezzer, a student attending University of Mexico. Being a college student is difficult enough without having to worry about how to pay for rent or transportation. Students would benefit greatly by raising the minimum wage, resulting in less stress so they can focus on what really matters, like studying and doing
