As a matter of fact, teenagers develop almost all political views based off of their parent’s beliefs. In my case, I tend to get my political ideology from my father who is also a Republican. My mother, who is also a registered republican has some of the same ideas; however, I tend to side more with my father’s political beliefs rather than my mothers. From the things I hear from him I develop my own ideas about politics but have the same base beliefs. For example, my father and I both believe strongly in the right to bare arms. My mother does as well and that is one viewpoint that we can all agree on. However, there are certain viewpoints that we have similar ideas but not the exact same beliefs. Such a viewpoint would be that of immigration and minority rights. I believe that when it comes to minorities they should obtain the rights they deserve, but nowadays minorities have become the majorities and they need to be treated as equals because the rights or “benefits” they have been given do not make sense in the fact that they get “opportunities” like free college education. For example, “the flag consists of 13 alternating red and white stripes that represent the 13 original colonies, and 50 white stars on a blue field, with each star representing a state. The colors on the flag represent: Red: valor and bravery, White: purity and innocence, and Blue: vigilance, perseverance, and justice” (5). The American flag is pledged to every single day in any public school across America. This shows what the flag means to its people of the United States and should not be disrespected. I believe strongly in the fact that the burning of the American flag should be a crime. Think of all the men and women who have served our country for the better of the people that want to call it home. Without them and without the sacrifice made it wouldn’t be the United States and it wouldn’t be what it is today. America is built off the hard work and dedication of its people. However, if one is to burn an American flag it is in the upmost disrespect that there can be: not only for the country itself, but for all the men and women who have sacrificed so much to be able to give the people of the United States the flag that some disrespect. They are throwing away the foundation of America and what it stands for along with
