Political Race

Now you may be wondering what a political essay is doing in a literary magazine, something that is home to the likes of poems, fiction, and the occasional art piece. I can not really provide an answer to that question, but what I can provide an answer for is the tense political race for the White House, which has outsiders that have gained significant ground on both sides, particular Bernie Sanders, the “Democratic Socialist”, and Donald Trump the “Successful” Businessman. We can talk about smaller issues all day, and make a 45-page article about how Bernie Sanders is too old to run or how Trump’s hair is to bad for him to become president, but what this essay is going to focus on is the major issues, the social, economic, and immigration issues. …show more content…
Because of Trump’s views on foreign policy, immigration, muslims, etc., he is popular with right wing Conservatives, particularly middle-aged / older white males. Trump is not only finding support in Conservatives, he is also finding support in a facebook group called “ Women for Donald Trump”, which as the name suggests, is a group of women that want to see Trump as our next president. In contrast, the other popular outsider candidate, Bernie Sanders, is much more popular with young voters then Donald Trump is. Bernie Sanders is also gaining momentum because of his social views, because contrary to his GOP (Grand Old Party) rival, Bernie Sanders is pro-choice, meaning he supports abortion. Along with this, Bernie Sanders is also a supporter of the LGBT community, or lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Both candidates however have supporters outside these groups, and both are very popular on the national …show more content…
Trump’s views are of course for aligned with Conservative America, meaning he wants to bring back lost jobs from China, Mexico, etc. He also wants to put a tariff (a tax) on all goods from China. In theory, this would reduce the trade deficit and make American goods more popular in American markets. Lastly, he wants to be rid of Obamacare, but he has not stated what he would replace Obamacare with. Bernie’s views are on the other hand may seem a bit outlandish, but still possible. Bernie Sanders, the self proclaimed “Democratic Socialist”, is a strong supporter of a $15 minimum wage, and he insists that $15 will be the new minimum wage if he gets elected into office. This would be welcomed news to a great many fast-food workers, many of whom believe they are paid too little, and can not survive off the current minimum wage. However, Bernie has his opponents to this idea, and many people believe if you raise the minimum wage, that would put millions of Americans out of work. Bernie also supports a higher income tax on the wealthy, which he says would benefit the US

Some might say that Donald Trump could be a better candidate as he is very experienced in business which could be very helpful in running the economy, whereas Bernie Sanders is not. However, Donald Trump has filed for bankruptcy four times, therefore it would be risky to count on him not to damage the economy. Sanders would likely be able to avoid mistakes like this with the advice of other people such as his cabinet. Some might also argue that Ted Cruz would make a better president as some of his issues includes securing borders and changing the immigration policy. However, this would cause problems with many families as they might be separated.…

It 's a steaming task to scribe a literate piece of work after the society supposedly living on the fabric of innovation has contorted the entirety of its ethos through one political election. That being said, it 's foolhardy to encompass a society so handcrafted on the fable of autonomy while the larger duality seems to serve the exact anti-thesis-- As surprising it is to hear, we live in an America catered to the bigotry of Trump and his supporters. As repulsive as he may be, our voices are drowned out by other members of Americans fraternizing and embellishing his repugnancy through fraternity tail-gaiting events, and locker room hangouts between misogynists and racists. What concerns me most, aside from the grotesque locker-room…

The view that is presented to citizens is that the Democrats are for the colored and women while the Republicans are for the rich, caucasian, old men. The only real difference between the two parties are that they have different opinions on social issues. For example, one party is pro-choice, wants more peace, for gay marriage, adoption for gays, and transgender rights, citizenship for immigrants, while the opposite party opposes. Election years in the United States remind many citizens that they live in a country with a political system that allows them to vote for people that will represent them and their wishes up in Washington. Many of the issues that become the target of debate can stem from dissatisfaction with the current regime, issues that have yet to have been answered, as well as whatever else is a hot topic at the time. One election season might have the turbulent geopolitical issues of the Middle East be the hot topic while the next season might have the talk shift to a domestic issue like gun control. Due to the presence of only two major political parties in America, many of the issues, candidates, and positions get diluted into binary choices that in…
