Political System. Botswana boasts Africa’s most prolonged and continuous multi-party democracy (Baker Tilly International, 2015). While there are other political parties (as of 1998, there are 13 registered political parties: Botswana Congress Party, Botswana Labour Party, Botswana National Front, Botswana Peoples Party, Botswana Progressive Union, Botswana Workers Front, Independence Freedom Party, Mels Movement of Botswana, Social Democratic Party, United Action Party, United Democratic Front, and the United Socialist Party) the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has governed the country since its independence in 1966 (Embassy of the Republic of Botswana, 2016). Botswana is a Parliamentary Republic style of government, as the Parliament is comprised of the House of Chiefs (35 members) and the National Assembly (63 members) (Baker Tilly International, 2015). The Head of State and the Head of Government is administered by President Seretse Khama Ian Khama, who was elected for a second 5 year term in August, 2014 (Baker Tilly International, 2015). The President is also responsible for appointing the country’s cabinet.
