Scandal is a drama/thriller show created by Shonda Rhimes. It was created in 2012 and the network used for the show is ABC. The show has five seasons and 78 episodes. The show is about a woman who starts off as being a whiter house communications director ends up leaving the white house and starting her own crisis management. Olivia Pope is one of the main characters and she is known as the “problem fixer.” If there is ever a problem she is the first one you go to so your problem can be solved. She has a team that works for her that she has saved one point in their life and they are all down for her. Political Culture is the fundamental, widely supported values that hold American society together and give legitimacy to its political institutions (Volkomer, 85). Political culture is related to political socialization because it’s the process by which people form political opinions from people and things around them. Family, school, peer group, media, social class, and race and religion are all factors that influence someone’s political belief. The media is a big one because nowadays everyone goes to the media for everything. In Scandal, political culture is seen in many different ways. Since America culture is democratic, the goals are equality, individual, freedom, and due process of law (Volkomer, 85). Public opinion is opinions expressed by citizens. In scandal, the citizens express their opinions and how they feel often. Public opinion was showed a lot when citizens wanted the president to do his job. Olivia ended up getting kidnapped because someone wanted to get back at the president. They knew that Olivia was the president’s weakness and that he would do anything for her. Political culture played a role in getting Olivia back because people who practiced the idea of political socialization. The ideas of citizens were influenced by one of these groups and they came all together to help get Olivia back. John Locke came up with the idea that everyone has natural rights such as life, liberty, and property. He also believed that individuals had the right tools to participate in a government established to protect their rights (6). If the government failed to protect peoples natural rights then they could be replaced. Basically throughout the show you see self-government. Olivia feels like she does not to be ruled or controlled by the government and she has a group of people behind her who feels the same way. She grew up being independent and the thought of someone controlling her is something that does not sit well with her. She did not always like the choices and decisions the president made and since he looked up to her and loved her he got her approval on everything. The people speaking out and calling the president out because of their natural rights practice self-government to make sure they were being treated fair. Limited government is basically the idea to place limits on the government. The idea of limited government is associated with the term constitutionalism which means, which holds that the powers of government should be defined and limited in a written document that serves as the basic law of the land (Volkomer, 9). The basic power of the government could only be altered through the amendment process (9). Certain
