Political Correctness In The Essay 'The Black Woman'

Political correctness has gone too far To simply question the use of political correctness can get you marked as a target by large leftist groups. Political correctness is defined by dictionary.com as being “Marked by or adhering to a typically progressive orthodoxy on issues involving especially ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or ecology.” The term “politically correct,” while originally meaning to be in line with political doctrine, was adopted and popularized by the New Left in the 1970’s because of the essay “The Black Woman” by Toni Cade (Gary). The term is now almost exclusively associated with the authoritarian left. With more and more unprejudiced people being considered bigots by stricter and rules considered politically correct, the more people are being alienated. According to Paul Austin Murphy of the American thinker, if an off color joke can be taken the wrong way and become hate speech, then actual hate speech can be taken as a joke. If actual hate speech is taken as a joke then it will spread. Then if that hate speech effects the right people then disgruntled reactionaries will come fourth and there may be a problem as they would have been experiencing actual oppression unlike those who think looking at them the wrong way is oppression. Political correctness has also allowed violence to happen to innocents. For example in the United Kingdom, people refused to step in and stop the grooming of children by Muslim pedophiles because of their fear of being labeled racists (Hall). Hurt humans should always have priority over hurt feelings. If political correctness was less extreme then people would have been more comfortable with stepping in and doing what was
