Political Correctness: Cornelia De Lange

Eighteen years ago, a mother was told that her daughter would never walk or talk. Her daughter Kaylee has a syndrome called Cornelia de Lange. Cornelia de Lange is a syndrome……. Kaylee not only has this syndrome, she has had many obstacles along the way. Kaylee has had kidney reflux, heart murmur, hearing impairment, seizure, and several hospitalizations. Not only has she dealt with medical problems, but emotional heartache as well. In elementary school, she was called the r-word. The r-words refer to retarded. Ever since then at school, she has not talked. However, she does talk when she is at home or out with someone. Meaning words can affect someones life. It is act of respect when watching the things that individuals say. One of the top elements in “political correctness” is when women are being attacked. For example they have many sexist language like mailman, fireman, or policeman (Peterson). However, there is not just political correctness of women, but how you describe someone as well like gay or retarded. A person should not be judge by their action or something they are born with. However, others may disagree because of the Bill of Rights that was established in 1791. The first amendment of the Bill of Rights is the freedom of speech (About). Having freedom of speech allows the country to be represented as individuals meaning everyone has their own opinions on certain topics. Therefore, each individual has the right to believe and say what they feel. Even though they have the right, it doesn’t mean it is okay to say the things that people say. On the other hand, taking away the freedom of speech is like taking way someone individuality, which is something that we do not need to take into
