With community policing, the focus is on stopping crime before it happens, not responding to calls after the crime is done. Community officers gives citizens more control over the quality of life in their community. Community policing means police become part of the neighborhood. This helps police get more involved with their resident's needs and it also helps residents to develop better trust in the police. The community era is a way to promote public safety and better problem solving. Although the political era was way before the community era, the community era took a great source from the political era, the foot patrolling.
