Being a supervisor in any line of work comes with a great amount of responsibility and personal skills. Some of those skills are being organized and setting priorities of work. This is important especially to increase effectiveness within an organization. Police supervisors have multiple responsibilities and must have the ability to successfully manage their time and their subordinate. Time management is especially important when officers work in the field to serve communities and solve crimes. As a police supervisor, it is important you are aware of the time spent and how it is spent. There are four generations of time management and they interrelated with one another. The first generation is basically utilizing a checklist to manage time and stay on track. I have used this type of method to manage time by making a list of things to accomplish on a daily basis and prioritizing the assigned tasks for that day. The second generation is driven by calendars to manage time as a way to stay on track with future events to maximize time management. The third generation of time …show more content…
This category comes with a downside of experiencing stress that essentially affects the individuals. I believe there is a distinctive difference between overworked employees and productive employees. We all have experienced this type of category time manager at some point in our careers. My experience was mostly based on the type of boss I had at that current time and the level of demands with making everything a priority. I think you also have to know when to use a specific category based on the importance and the level of visibility that task has. Category II is not as aggressive as category I with the management of time.
