The Office of the Chief of Police is responsible for the overall command of all sworn officers and non-sworn employees. Members of the Office of the Chief coordinate; long-range planning, policy development and review, employee development and training, labor relations and personnel management, financial management and purchasing, employee accountability, and media relations.

The Division's mission is to insure the integrity of the Miami Gardens Police Department and to protect the public, through fair, thorough, and proactive investigations of alleged police misconduct. Additionally, the Training Unit has the responsibility for coordinating and arranging all outside training, coordinating and monitoring academy training for new employees, conducting both pre and post academy orientation for new employees, maintaining training records for all employees, and operating all classroom facilities.
The Training Unit is staffed by both civilian and sworn personnel. In addition to the staff assigned to the unit, the Department has a number of instructors that teach courses in their area of expertise such as domestic violence, leadership, juvenile procedures, and human diversity. The Training staff is responsible for both State mandated training and in-service training. The Training Unit conducts research, training and development of weapons, equipment, tactics and procedures. Members of this Unit are responsible for training all personnel in a variety of topics to include: Weapons of Mass Destruction, Terrorism Response, Incident Command, and Rapid Action Tactics for School Shootings. During his law enforcement career, he was a K-9 unit Sergeant, Marine Patrol Sergeant and served on a Street Crimes Unit. He also served on a SWAT team as an Operator, Sniper, SWAT Team Commander and as a Motorcycle Officer. He has a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. His areas of instructional expertise include Sudden Custody Death, Hobble Restraint, TASER Master Instructor, K9, RADAR/LASER, EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations), Simunitions, Rapid Response, Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun Instructor
