Order maintenance and crimes are another important part of policing and the police role. Some people believe that is the call is not in reference to a crime than it is not important. However, others feel like all calls are important and those not related to crimes still help keep a community safe and peaceful. Mastrofski has four different models that are used to help the effectiveness when dealing with crime. Mastrofski identifies these as crime prophylactic model, police knowledge model, social work model, and community cooperation model. The prophylactic model states that police can defuse a situations and prevent them from becoming a criminal violence case.
