Police Officer Case Study

When reviewing the case from the perspective of the Police Officer, I would start with the back of the case. An individual had moved rushed into the local post office and through making route past the customers to retail counter. At the retail counter the person pointed a fire arm at the postal clerk who was asked to provide all the money with him. The clerk complied with the demand and the individual after collecting the money fled. Postal Clerk and two customers, John and Jill witnessed the crime. While there was no video surveillance at Post Office, several stores nearby had adequate surveillance equipment 's in place. The report studies the police officer 's roles and responsibilities in this condition, followed by determination of responses from local, state and federal institutions and the way coordination is established among these.
In such a situation of robbery the main roles and functions of the police officer would include, taking of statements of the witnesses (the Postal clerk, John and Jill), collection of evidences related to crime that may have been left by the accused, collecting of supporting evidences like video surveillance records from nearby stores. While the local police may have responsibility for that county, the state police would be equally responsible. Furthermore, while the detectives of state agency would carry out investigation, federal detectives may also be involved. However though there is overlap of jurisdictions and responsibilities these agencies cooperate with each other. While the local police, in this case would carry out the issue if it is specific to the county, the state police would be involved if the head post office is at some other place and it has made a FIR and also in case the culprit is beyond the jurisdiction of local police.
