I am doing my online research paper on policing. With this in mind I plan to become a police officer in my adult life. I will be telling you what the duties are of a police officer, and also what it takes to become a police officer. Police Forces began in New York City established the Shout and Rattle Watch in 1651, but, by 1705 Philadelphia found it necessary to divide the city into ten patrol areas. The term is most commonly associated with police services of a state that are authorized to exercise the police power of that state within a defined legal or territorial area of responsibility. Police forces are often defined as being separate from military or other organizations involved in the defense of the state against foreign aggressors; however, gendarmerie are military units charged with civil policing. …show more content…
( nytimes.com ). There are 13 police stations in the county of Galveston County, TX so I feel that Galveston County is pretty well protected. (galvestoncountytx.gov/). The Population of Houston, TX is 2,280,859 the police force is made up of 7,054 with 5,351 of just patrol officers.
To become a police officer you need to have either a High School diploma and/or G.E.D. as well you have to do some Police Academy. You could also go to college to have a degree in criminal justice to help you have a higher rank when being sworn in the police force of your choice.
In order to be in the police force you need you have to go through the police academy. But to pass the police academy you have to go through the Cross Fit process be able to run a mile within a certain amount of time and swim certain distances as well.
