Police Officer Interview Project
My paper will discuss my experience with interviewing Officer John Meehan. My interview took place on February 18th, 2016 at the North Eastern District. The majority of the interview consisted of why he became a police officer and whether he was a part of any big cases during his professional career. I asked if there were any challenges he had to face and have his opinions/life changed on policing. I also wanted to get his thoughts on events involving specifically race since a lot of cases have been targeting police with this stigma. When first going in to meet Officer Meehan, it was kind of intimidating at first. I was really nervous and had no idea what to expect. I have never been to police station before. The officer says never and as long as they have been an officer, they’ve managed to keep a clean record. They just ignore whatever the suspect says and he states that most police brutality cases rise from cops who can’t control their own emotions in the face of insults. Then, newsone asked if it was tough for the officer to restrain themselves. The officer replied that it’s definitely tough because they’re human. The people they arrest are criminals, but they have the nerve to be disrespectful. They say it does add fuel to the fire and that most officers don’t let it get to them. Newsone then asks if they have encountered any racism from superiors or fellow officers. The officer replies they have not.
