Police Officer Interview Essay

For my last interview I decided to question my friends mother who is a police officer. Her name is Andreanna. I chose to interview a police officer because I had a criminal justice course this semester and I did very well in it. I might go to graduate school for criminal justice if I find what exactly I would like to do. I started the interview by asking about her background. She said since she was little and saw police officers around town and it intrigued her. Once she graduated HS she got her bachelor's degree in criminal Justice, and soon as she graduated College she was hired at Jackson city police department which was her first job. If I don’t like it I can always move on and find something else. I asked her what are some of the challenges she faces in this career where its male dominated? She says it's interesting and fun at the same time because you always get different points of view from men. Some old-timers think females shouldn't be police officers or that they’re not tough enough for the career. Being a good police officer isn’t about other people's opinions though it's okay to joke around, there's times to be serious. I asked her how she deals with the stress her job may potentially bring her, and her reply was her job is extremely stressful but she has a lot of fun at the same time. She says that's how she balances it out is by making light of her situations and talking to her husband about things or venting to somebody. She says I would never believe how some people treat police officers, but she doesn't let that bother her because she knows what type of person she is.
