The profession of a police officer is a dangerous and tasking job. Normally seen with tasks of apprehension and prevention of crime, many officers have other side tasks to carry out as well. A police officer is a uniformed officer that protects the country's citizens in times of danger and distress. They uphold laws and are sworn to an oath that allows them to detain and arrest citizens if the laws are being broken. I chose to write about this career due to the interest I have in becoming some sort of law enforcement officer later in life. For a class in senior year I was selected to participate in a Mentor position class. All possible employees must pass a physical fitness test, as well as complete a 12 week Skills course and finally need to pass a licensing test. Along with these many agencies require a psychological exam and require a clean bill of health. All of these tests and checks are only available for graduate students who have a minimum of an Associates degree in some sort of Law Enforcement, or to have passed a Post test. Along with this, In order to gain a job in departments it would help to have an internship through some sort of law enforcement but none are required.
