Today there are ethical issues regarding brutality, corruption and off-duty behaviors that have become an increasing challenge in criminal justice that are heavily played on by media. Ethical issues exist in government, policing and international politics and have for centuries. Within our criminal justice system much power is given to the players, to ensure the power does not become an abuse of power the people are to follow a code of ethics. These codes of ethics can focus on social values, courses, police practices and are ethical guidelines consistent with community standards. These codes of ethics are followed to maintain public trust while performing their responsibilities. Police ethics are aspects of the law enforcement system that …show more content…
In the Jackson County Prosecutors office a victim advocate has to consider their ethical beliefs every day. Their ethical beliefs and morals are challenged daily. Being a victim advocate is not for everyone, especially those who do not know how to set asides one’s own feelings. Victim Advocates follow the code of Professional Ethics for Victim Assistance Providers. Victim Advocates are expected to “act with integrity, to treat all victims and survivors with dignity and compassion, and, in cases of crime, to uphold principles of justice for accused and accuser alike.” One of the first papers I received when going to my internship was about the code of professional ethics regarding the victims. The ethics we are to follow are as followed; With every victim, the victim service provider should: 1. Recognize the interests of the victim as a primary responsibility; 2. Foster maximum self-determination on behalf of the victim; 3. Respond respectfully to each victim with personalized services; 4. Respect and protect all applicable civil and legal rights of the victim including, but not limited to, Article I, Section 32
