Law enforcement is a diversified, expanding career with a common goal: improving quality of life in local communities through the reduction of crime and protection of citizens. Adequate law enforcement is the backbone of a civilized, developed society with an established and progressive legal system. Since violations of the law will always be an unfortunate consequence of a developed society, police officers and other law enforcement personnel will always be needed to enforce these laws. In Monmouth County, all future and current law enforcement personnel train at the Monmouth County Police Academy located in Freehold (Freeman). At this multidimensional facility, officer candidates undergo a 12-week program that combines physical conditioning, firearm training, and classroom learning with hands-on activities. As the chief enforcers of local, state, and federal law, police officers must be responsive to the concerns of the community. A new police officer must adapt to the concerns of the community while working in an environment of increased scrutiny. One thing is absolutely certain: police will continue to proactively work within appropriate jurisdictions to reduce crime and improve quality of life. As such, policing is, and will continue to be, a rewarding career that truly improves the lives of the citizens in the area
