Police Case Summary

On June 26, 2013, officers were dispatched to a local business for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived they discovered a male subject who had been wound by a gun shot and a second victim inside a vehicle with a gunshot. Both subjects were transported by emergency response vehicles to a local hospital. The subject who had been located inside the vehicle was pronounced dead by a physician at the hospital.

The detectives responded to the hospital they interviewed the injured victim. He stated he and the deceased had exited at a local bar. Upon exiting, they were involved in a physical fight with several unknown males; he hit into an unconscious state. Once he and other victim were able to get up they left the area and went to a local convenience store then drove back the bar and tried to make entry; however, security told them they could not enter. On August 29, 2015, officers observed Mr. Johnson driving a vehicle and indicated a traffic stop. The defendant stopped the vehicle, exited, and began to walk away. Officers took Mr. Johnson into custody; they discovered a handgun approximately 10 to 15 feet away from where the defendant was taken into custody.
During an interview, Mr. Johnson was able to pick himself out of surveillance photos provided by the bar. He stated he had been outside of the bar talking to a couple of women when the shooting occurred. After the detectives showed him photographs of him shooting at the victim’s vehicle several times, he changed his story and explained he thought the driver had gun.
