Introduce the main idea
---In the United States, police officers use excessive force against minorities. This is called Police Brutality
Provide explanation of topics significance ---Police brutality is a very important topic because so many innocent people are being hurt for no substantial reason.
Acknowledge counterclaim ---Others say that the police are just doing their job and had reason to believe that the victim of police brutality was doing something bad
Thesis statement ---There needs to be a fast and easy ending to police brutality against minorities
II. Description
Background information regarding topic ---Some forms of police brutality are excessive force but also false arrest, vicious prosecution, and …show more content…
---A solution for police brutality that has already been experimented are body cameras. Body cameras are cameras worn by police officers to have evidence of an encounter with a civilian.
Why didn’t they work? ---The body cameras can be a very good solution. But they don’t always work because they are not always turned on and they might now show the entire story. I think that my solutions can be in addition to the body cameras.
III. Solutions
What is your proposed solution? Be specific! ---I have three solutions that I think can change police brutality. My first proposed solution is to occasionally test police officers for racial bias. Someone would ask officers a series of questions and hypothetical situations to see what they would do. My second proposed solution is to require police to have more training and to specifically train them for times when they might encounter a civilian who they think is dangerous. My third proposed solution is to create an independent organization that looks into cases where the police may have abused someone and might be guilty of police brutality. The organization would get more information of what happened and hold the police officer accountable for their …show more content…
d. What evidence do you have to prove this? --I know this because the current solution (the body cameras) have not yet ended police brutality because it is still coming up in the news too often.
IV. Counterclaim
Acknowledge the opposition (could be cost, politics, opposing views) ---Some may say that the police are doing their job and that they must’ve had a cause.
Evidence to support why your solution is still the best ---My solutions is the best because police have assaulted hundreds of unarmed people in the past years and training the police to change their behaviors will certainly reduce the amount of police brutality.
What makes your proposal worth supporting? ---My proposal is worth supporting because police have abused so many minorities. There has to be a way that this can end.
Evidence to support your proposal ---There were 146 people who were unarmed and not attacking that were killed in 2017. 37% of these unarmed people were African-American. This number will increase if we don’t do anything to stop it.
