Police Brutality Police brutality is the most common subject on the media; social sites, news, radio and other sources. Police are here to protect our society or at least that’s what we thought they were here for. Police are abusing the power they have. They know that if they do something inappropriate they have a high chance of getting away with it. But many police officers have been videotaped; shooting, beating, and even killing people. The worst part of all this is that most of these victims are innocent. Many people have stood up and have done protests about these brutalities but only some justice has been done. In the past 2 years there has been more cases of police brutality than other years. One of many things I’ve noticed is that police mostly kill African Americans and Hispanics. I believe that many of these brutalities have to do with race. It’s very obvious. For example a Hispanic man in Washington DC was shot to death a couple weeks ago for no reason. The Hispanic man was walking away from the officers when they all fired shots at him. If he was walking away there was no need of firing, the police could have just chased and arrested him for his conduct. There was no need for a civilian to die. Police officer cannot keep on doing all these things just because they want to. There are different ways to let people know that the law needs to be followed, and if not there will be severe consequences. For example, jail, community service or any type of community education programs. Many officers make unreasonable excuses after they commit brutalities. For example they’ll state that a man pulled out a knife or so on. But that is why police officers carry Tasers or pepper spray which can be used instead of a gun.
