“Can we all just get along”? The words of Rodney King while he was being brutally beaten by law enforcement. Today we still see a lot of racism, just in many different forms. Racial profiling has been a big epidemic sense the 70's. Being an African American in the wrong area at the wrong time could become deadly for a young black man. In America, there are 400 annual deaths reported to federal authorities by local police departments. 18% are black suspect was under 21 and killed by police. (Makay, T. 2014,) Slavery is now abolished, but there is a new form of slavery of keeping African Americans in the system or even in the grave.
As children “the talk" was a very awkward talk with their parents. When getting "the talk" we think about the birds and the bees. But now there is another talk that parents have to take the time could inform their children. Now parents have to sit their children down and warn them on how they are perceived because they're young and they are black. They even have to emphasize it even more if they have sons that are getting old enough to take care of their self's. According to the department of justice African Americans make up 13% of the general population and 38% of the population is in prison. (Chaney, C 2013) Statistics show that white officers killed African Americans twice a week in the United States. …show more content…
On an average this adds up to 96 times a year. ( Jones, C. P. 2000). Reporting from the database from the federal authorities, Police Department shows larger numbers. Most of the report shows that it’s a white on black shootings. What's even more shocking, most of the shootings occur to young man as young as sixteen. (Makay, T. 2014,) In the article Tom Martin said the White police has a pattern of using deadly forces against black people. The evidence is as plain and simple as it gets. We see the pattern of being a target to society. In Addition, being stereotyped as dangerous people. What's really sad about this situation, most of the cases get swept under the rub and it's expected to move on. Each writer made very good points in their research. The information flowed and it made a lot of sense as to what's going today. The writer has also used good examples that pertain to my time era. Which makes me able to relate to each situation. Also the writing is very complex and goes into very good details. It shows history of what has happened in the past and compared it to what's going on right today. Most cases are not reported because they are violating rights. Showing the statistics and what's going on in each community is very important. Because reading each professional article it seems like young teenage boys are targeted. It’s very important to get all the information out to the public so future generations when know what their children are facing when they get older. Not only should it bring awareness but it also brings motivation to be somebody and not be another statistic. Also each year the numbers are getting bigger on the deaths of teenage boys caused by law enforcement. I feel like all the research that is done on this specific topic should be shared in public schools and even
