Each year in the United States on duty police officers shoot between 950 - 1000 innocent people a year. According to an analysis by criminologist Philip Stinson, only 48 officers have been charged with manslaughter since 2005. These officers should not be treated above the law and should be held accountable for their actions. Officers try to justify their actions by claiming they were ‘defending themselves’ or ‘fearing their lives’ but what possible defending would you need against a 12 year old boy with a toy gun [Tamir Rice] or an unarmed 17 year old boy buying Skittles at a convenience store [Trayvon Martin].Imagine knowing your child will never return from the store because they were wrongfully murdered and their murderer gets to not…

In the Rights of Man, pamphleteer Thomas Paine extols America for being a melting pot of various diverse nationalities and religions, who promote freedom and liberty. Thomas Paine agreed that constructing an effective government would be on the premise that liberty, freedom, and diversity would be accepted and also would be supported by the common principles of society and the rights of man to achieve a cordial union. Unfortunately, Thomas Paine’s views on a utopian America were not only fiction, but was primarily fantasy. It was simply not true. Thomas Paine was oblivious to the issues presented in 1791 America that violated the rights of man and he also neglected the issues regarding upper and lower class wealth divisions and status in government.…

The discrimination has been toughest on minorities—like the African-American community. Along with the racial discrimination from society itself, some police and law enforcement figures have often abused their power and taken advantage of their place in the majority race.…
