viewers are given a great example of systems that need to be challenged. This documentary does a tremendous job of educating viewers on issues concerning the contemporary food industries. Viewers are given an opportunity to learn about the abuse of workers and animals, the creation of low-quality food, and the political and economic power of large food-producing corporations. This documentary takes it a step further by pointing out that something needs to be done about it. In the film American farmer Joel Salatin is quoted saying that he thinks that “it 's one of the most important battles for consumers to fight: the right to know what 's in their food, and how it was grown.” (Food, Inc.) This documentary takes strides to persuade the viewer to understand that large entities such as corporations and governments can be influenced by personal action. Various examples of people who are no longer willing to stand by for what they believe to be unfair and unjust systems to destroy America. In most of the cases in this documentary, the people who have chosen to speak out and challenge extending systems were once not concerned with it and it took some influence for them to consider fighting for change. Perhaps ten years before this film was made the number of those in the circle of concern was small but through time more and more people saw the problem and the numbers are still growing. It is not easy but it must be done for the things that people truly believe must change. In this day and age, millennials can thrive at activism if they look at the past to change the problems in the present. If problems can repeat than perhaps so can solutions but millennials should never become complacent with yesterday’s results. All Americans must be mindful that choosing to live in an unjust system, is not only giving the system more power but it also denies the propensity for change. Also, if we were to choose to not cooperate with selected portions of the systems, we would be accepting the realities of governmental power and, selfishly, only be concerned with our own morals and personal integrity. Just because a person do not have a hand on the gun doesn’t mean they still cannot enable someone else to make the gun fire. Understanding that, despite our country being founded on some individualistic principles, it is our duty as American citizens to continue to challenge systems for the betterment of the larger community. The best position to take regarding governmental power and personal belief is to be educated, active, and never give up on challenging unjust
