Holmes, a professor from the college of sociology at the University of Wyoming, strongly claims the idea that the occurrence of police’s use of cruelty and atrocity has been directed towards the colored people, especially the black community. For instance, Holmes states in his article “Minority Threat and Police Brutality: Determinants of Civil Rights Criminal Complaints in U.S. Municipalities”, “Nowhere is that tension more apparent than in the relations between minorities and police…In this view, the police function to control the “dangerous classes” of immigrants, racial minorities, and the poor” (Holmes 343-344). For example, Samuel Aymer, an associate professor from Hunter College who works within the field of social work, has claimed that there’s a clear distinction between races that leads to oppression and different privileges of each race. Therefore, we are able to acknowledge this when Aymer states, “The discourse of racial oppression in America cannot be disentangled from White supremacy, a worldview proclaiming White racial superiority and Black inferiority (Alexander, 2010; hooks, 1995; Madhubuti, 1990).” (Aymer 367). This is a great example of how America has an undermined divergence within its races that exemplify the difference in advantages and benefits that each race possesses. As we can see, racial beneficiaries would cause a great disturbance due to the fact that the privilege people will believe they are worth more than the underclass individuals. Moreover, the difference in privileges have lead to events such as the awful death of an unarmed black man, that was named Eric Garner, due to unnecessary excessive force by a white male police officer (Aymer). Later, the grand jury had failed to indict the white police officer thus sparking the “Black Lives Matter” movement that would go worldwide (Aymer). Many
