Philip Stinson, a former police officer, has done research on all of the homicides committed by the police. He has found that “[T]he FBI does record ‘justifiable homicides’ by police officers. There were 461 such homicides in 2013, but by definition, this doesn 't include the number of police charged with a crime for on-duty actions” (Brown, 2015). Stinson also states that “reporting these statistics to the FBI is voluntary”. By not having to report the number of innocent people whom are murdered, the police get away scot free and do not even have to face the consequences of their actions. Police brutality is an issue that cannot be overcome if things continue as they are. According to CNN news, “prison guards and staff were smuggling contraband such as liquor, tobacco and cellphones into the cell blocks for money” (Brown & Ryan, 2016) which eventually led to these prisoners committing fraud from inside a jail cell. It is no wonder people do not feel safe nor protected by the police. Not to mention ticket quotas. Corruption, entitlement, and discrimination amongst other things have not helped the situation. They have made things worse than they already are. In many cases, the United States justice system fails to protect the people and their families. People are not always treated as though they are innocent until proven guilty. Often times, it tends to be the opposite: guilty until proven innocent. America is in desperate need of a renewed justice system because the one used now does a lot of
