Polaroid: A Fictional Narrative

Improved Essays
I was sitting in my bunk looking at my girlfriends Polaroid that she had sent me a few months ago. As I was looking Chuck asked me,
“how is she doing?” Frankly I didn’t know I hadn’t talked to her in years this is something that she sent to my parents after she left me because she was getting lonely while I was away at war.
“Yeah, she’s...good,” I replied uncertainly.
“Well that is good,” he replied.
While I was looking at her picture I hear gun fire. Then *BOOM* a torpedo hits the port side of the ship, I am sent flying out of my bunk Chuck was sent flying also but he hit harder because he was on the top of the bunk. “What the hell was that,” Chuck exclaimed.
“I don’t know Chuck, but it didn’t sound good,” I replied. I then got up and

He then replied “You never know what you will need until you need it.”
“Well hurry up we need to get top side,” I said post haste. I was happy to have Chuck with me, he is a more muscular build, while I am a smaller figure than Chuck. The reason that I say this is because we had come across some beams that had fallen, but he was able to push it out of the way so that we could get top side.
We then got to the deck of the California and saw all hell coming down on the ships I saw so many of my brothers down on the ground bleeding, dying, suffering and there was nothing that I could do. But maybe I could man a turret and help shoot down those dirty Japs.
“Chuck, help me on the turret we need to take them down now,” I shouted to Chuck. After I had shouted I looked over my shoulder to see him trying to help a pinned man, so I go over to help, but before I could get to him I hear something over my shoulder. *DOOT, DOOT, DOOT!* A Japanese Akutan Zero flies over my head and kills them both right in front of my own eyes, they died all because I didn’t get there in time, my best friend is dead because of

Another man then starts the airboat and we were off, we were going to try and take out some dirty Japs until rescue teams could arrive. We were taking heavy fire from the Japs when I thought we may have a grasp at making it out.
I hear a man yell for me and say “I’ve been shot!” it was Master Chief Petty Officer Crawford. He had been shot in the chest three times by a Japanese Zero. I then rushed over to Master Chief Petty Officer Crawford, but the only thing that I was thinking was he may die to, because of me if I had just jumped overboard the first time he said it not the third not the second but the first. When I got over to the body I tried so hard to stop the bleeding but I just couldn’t stop the bleeding it seemed that it was coming out by the gallon.
The man driving the airboat said “Man a turret we are coming under heavy fire!”
“It’s all my fault that there dead brother, it is all my fault that Chuck is dead, it is all my fault that Master Chief Petty Officer Crawford is dead too, it is all my
